Paul Markowitz is a kinetic artist based in Montpelier, Vermont.
Paul is an emerging artist who has focused on the art of balance, movement, line, and color since his retirement from full-time work in 2019. His art is inspired by the work of Alexander Calder – the godfather of mobiles – to whom Paul offers enormous gratitude for bringing this art form to the forefront. His mobiles are made from aluminum and wire, with some stone and sea glass incorporated. The dimensions are generally 2 cubic feet in size.
“I have always been fascinated with the concept of balance and the many factors that affect it. Making mobiles is a very visible way for me to explore it further. I love to see how mobiles are art that rely on air movement and flow and how they reveal something that is otherwise hidden. I also like to incorporate whimsy into my work, with the goal of bringing smiles to viewers.”
